STANDING ALONGSIDE TERNA IN MODERNISING THE NATIONAL ELECTRICITY GRID

Normal Clad CR Power 40.5kV switchgear for steelwork plants

At a pivotal moment for Italy’s energy future, marked by the transfer of high-voltage (HV) assets to the National Transmission Grid and by Terna’s 2025 Development Plan, C.R. Technology Systems plays an active role in driving change, supporting these ambitious projects.

We have been selected by Terna as a partner for the supply of 40.5 kV switchgear for new substations and for the expansion of the high-voltage grid. This is a key step in enabling the integration of renewable energy sources, enhancing system resilience, and meeting decarbonisation targets.

Furthermore, the recent ministerial decree (protocol no. 38796 of 27 March 2025) has accelerated the restructuring of the grid, streamlining the transfer of HV assets and ensuring operational continuity through the automatic transfer of permits and concessions to the NewCo, later fully acquired by Terna.

This regulatory and operational evolution paves the way for the implementation of Terna’s 2025 Development Plan, which includes strategic investments to:

  • increase capacity from renewable sources (over 65 GW by 2030 and an additional 20 GW by 2034);
  • deploy electricity storage systems (MACSE) to effectively integrate renewables into the market;
  • support the creation of grid infrastructure to power energy-intensive data centres, whose numbers have been steadily increasing in recent years;
  • strengthen international energy exchanges.

C.R. Technology Systems is already at the forefront: we have started the certification process for switchgear, our CR POWER 40, destined for these new infrastructures, with an approach driven by innovation, sustainability, and service to the nation’s energy system.
